Scientist

Job purpose:

Proceed in scientific investigations, data analysis, coordinate technical support to Operations Department. The job includes a diverse range of activities, sometimes competing, which adds complexity. The role requires a high degree of flexibility as matter of urgency will often arise unforeseen; it is essential that the job holder will be able to adjust on priorities which are set daily as well as pursuing continuous important background tasks.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct project work/investigations, using sound scientific methodology.
  • Analyse large sets of data provide interpretation and conclusions.
  • Suggest and assist the implementation of continuous improvements.
  • Report results of investigations clearly and efficiently.
  • Provide support to Operations Department. This can include scientific investigations relative to quality, troubleshooting. Investigate, gather, and analyse the information available and communicate findings to the Senior Scientist and then communicate agreed message to Operations. Clear and concise communication and high level of reliability is expected.
  • Organise own project/investigations.
  • Participate in or carry out scientific project work/investigations as required. This can include scientific laboratory work, typically setting up and conducting experiments as well as analysing experimental data and documenting the work done. A high level of reliability is expected.
  • Work with the Senior Scientist and other scientists in producing technical marketing documentation.
  • Show initiative in organising and doing work.
  • Identify problems or improvement opportunities and propose solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with the line manager. This includes verbal communication but also producing project documentation, work reports and weekly reports on activity to line manager. It is the responsibility of the Scientist/Engineer to communicate efficiently his output with the line manager. This also includes making efforts to select, summarize and present well the relevant/important information to be communicated.
  • Show respectful and positive attitude towards staff and colleagues. Work includes cooperating and providing support when adequate.
  • Operate accordingly to Health and Safety policy and take necessary steps to always work in a safe manner (work with H&S Manager if needed).
  • Do what is possible to accommodate special requirements made by the line manager.

We are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • A degree in science or engineering
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in data analysis including data analysis of large datasets
  • Skilled in Excel and in looking for data in large databases
  • Skilled in problem solving
  • Good attention to detail

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Identify, define and deliver the manufacturing engineering project portfolio
  • Manage and drive manufacturing engineering activities to ensure compliance with specifications, processes, and procedures while improving quality, efficiency and capacity
  • Lead the team in a positive, inclusive, collaborative, and influential way
  • Be the process owner for the Engineering function
  • Identify improvement opportunities and propose solutions through product design, process refinements and workflow optimisations
  • Develop and set up new production processes to produce sensor/electronic board module assemblies
  • Manage the set up and calibration of testing stations, including gas testing rigs
  • Develop and set up new production processes such as electrode printing
  • Manage and drive engineering activities to ensure compliance with both customer requirements and applicable quality standards, specifications, processes, and procedures including FMEA
  • Operate according to Health and Safety policy and take necessary steps to work in a safe manner
  • Follow and assist quality certification requirements
  • Communicate and report efficiently and constructively with the Alphasense leadership team

We are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • Degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Previous leadership experience within an Engineering function
  • Creative and innovative problem solver
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving, taking responsibility for project delivery
  • Experience of R&D and/or design for manufacture in high volume environments
  • Fluent with 3d and 2d CAD systems
  • Experience developing and setting up automated assembly and test processes
  • Experience with automation systems including robotics/manipulators, machine vision, PLCs and software
  • Familiar with a range of assembly and fabrication methods
  • Previous roles in sensor manufacture or supporting processes such as printing, welding, forming is a plus
  • Prior experience working in a regulated environment such as medical devices would be beneficial
