Scientist

Job purpose:

Proceed in scientific investigations, data analysis, coordinate technical support to Operations Department. The job includes a diverse range of activities, sometimes competing, which adds complexity. The role requires a high degree of flexibility as matter of urgency will often arise unforeseen; it is essential that the job holder will be able to adjust on priorities which are set daily as well as pursuing continuous important background tasks.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct project work/investigations, using sound scientific methodology.
  • Analyse large sets of data provide interpretation and conclusions.
  • Suggest and assist the implementation of continuous improvements.
  • Report results of investigations clearly and efficiently.
  • Provide support to Operations Department. This can include scientific investigations relative to quality, troubleshooting. Investigate, gather, and analyse the information available and communicate findings to the Senior Scientist and then communicate agreed message to Operations. Clear and concise communication and high level of reliability is expected.
  • Organise own project/investigations.
  • Participate in or carry out scientific project work/investigations as required. This can include scientific laboratory work, typically setting up and conducting experiments as well as analysing experimental data and documenting the work done. A high level of reliability is expected.
  • Work with the Senior Scientist and other scientists in producing technical marketing documentation.
  • Show initiative in organising and doing work.
  • Identify problems or improvement opportunities and propose solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with the line manager. This includes verbal communication but also producing project documentation, work reports and weekly reports on activity to line manager. It is the responsibility of the Scientist/Engineer to communicate efficiently his output with the line manager. This also includes making efforts to select, summarize and present well the relevant/important information to be communicated.
  • Show respectful and positive attitude towards staff and colleagues. Work includes cooperating and providing support when adequate.
  • Operate accordingly to Health and Safety policy and take necessary steps to always work in a safe manner (work with H&S Manager if needed).
  • Do what is possible to accommodate special requirements made by the line manager.

Senior Firmware Engineer/Firmware Engineer

Job purpose:

Senior Firmware Engineer/Firmware Engineer or similar role to work in new product development in the field of sensors and sensor modules.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Undertake firmware engineering work including firmware design and testing.
  • Focus in writing bare-metal embedded software using C/C++.
  • Design new products and proactively manage all aspects of their development from conception to commercialisation.
  • Optimise various aspects of our products (writing algorithms, power management, etc.).
  • Analyse IP landscape.
  • Provide occasional customer support.
  • Ready to lead complex project to develop new gas sensor products that meet certification requirements, such as IS and others.
  • Demonstrate working sensor prototypes based on methods adaptable to manufacturing and performance characterisation.
  • Undertake and manage R&D activities, typically setting up and conducting experiments as well as analysing experimental data and documenting the work done.
  • Ensure new products are available to production and do everything possible to deliver within agreed timescales.

We are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • Preferably higher degree in electronic engineering, software engineering, physics or related field.
  • Good programming skills in C/C++ for firmware development. We mainly develop firmware based on STM32 Cortex-M systems in embedded C.
  • Good knowledge of Microcontrollers and how to integrate them in designs.
  • Experience developing bare-metal firmware for real world applications.
  • Experience working with Serial Protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART/USART, CAN and sensor integration over I2C, SPI, CAN, etc.
  • Experience in electronics hardware testing and design beneficial, including schematic design and PCB Layout using (Altium Designer, Eagle, etc.)
  • Experience in software engineering developing software for PC beneficial.
  • Experience is physics including optical systems beneficial.
  • Flexibility to fill in gaps in projects such as sourcing parts, build or modify equipment and so on.
  • Experience leading and delivering complex R&D projects.
  • Experience writing firmware and sensor calibration algorithms such as Kalman filters.
  • Following and assisting with quality certification requirements.
  • Data analysis using Matlab or similar packages.

Automation Engineer/Process Engineer

Job purpose:

Participating in the setting up of automated manufacturing processes and subsequently maintaining, updating and performing fault diagnosis. We will be looking for somebody with experience setting up automation, maintenance in a context of an automated manufacture. The core skills involved are software literacy, electrical engineering, process engineering, industrial engineering.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Setting up new automated production processes such as sensor device assembly and electrode printing.
  • Setting up efficient production processes.
  • Setting up and calibrating testing stations, including gas testing rigs.
  • Provide technical support for all aspects of automation fault finding/diagnosis and improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement through enhancements to existing control software and hardware systems.
  • Perform software updates.
  • Perform maintenance to avoid breakdown and coordinate with external resources where required.
  • Identify and coordinate automation training opportunities within the engineering team
  • Follow and assist quality requirements.
  • Organising and updating budget documentation.
  • Preparing meeting briefs, presentations.

We are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • Automation Engineering/Process Engineering/Industrial Engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a manufacturing company.
  • Qualified to a minimum HNC level in mechanical/computer/electrical engineering or similar.
  • Experience in performing software updates and fault diagnostic for automates/robots.
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of automates/robots’ maintenance.
  • Experience working with printing techniques such as screen printing as well as ink formulation would be a plus.

Quality Engineer

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Determine test requirements, test methods, sample sizes and statistical analysis for qualification/verification studies for incoming material and manufacturing.
  • Devise and/or maintain sampling procedures, designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality data.
  • Initiate and lead non-conformance investigations regarding component failures, finished goods failures, and product returns. This includes but is not limited to performing risk analysis, determining root cause and recommending corrective action.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data by utilizing appropriate charts such as Xbar R, IMR or PARETO for (IQA, DMR, OQA and other variable data) and make recommendations.
  • Analyze customer complaints, events and other post marketing surveillance data by examining the data for patterns and trends and investigating when necessary and working on cross-functional teams.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering and operations to assess, develop and implement process quality controls such as Process Flow Chart, Product Control Plan (PCP), Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Develop, implement, and/or maintain methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material, and devise methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Develop, implement, and/or maintain methods, procedures, and schedules for supplier evaluation and auditing.
  • Assists in coordinating Operational Excellence initiatives, as applicable.
  • Maintain close working relationships with respective certification bodies. Ensure that the business maintains a clear understanding of requirements, changes, etc. (UL, CSA, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of Quality.

We are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • Degree in quality, industrial, or mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ Years Electrical and Mechanical Assembly Experience.
  • Working knowledge of 5S.
  • Working knowledge of ESD controls and discipline (S20.20 Standard).
  • Working knowledge of using problem solving tools such as 8D/5 Whys.
  • Working knowledge and ISO 9001:2015 Internal Audit certification.
  • Basic understanding of Supplier Quality Management.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Awareness and working knowledge of EHS.
  • Previous experience in supplier development.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA.

  • Higher degree in engineering physics / physical and theoretical chemistry or related field, preferably PhD.
  • Industry R&D experience with sensor development.
  • Leading and delivering complex R&D projects preferable.
  • Experience in electrochemistry, electrochemical sensors, battery technology or electrochemical corrosion preferable.
  • Experience in materials science, analytical chemistry, optics or integrating electronics with sensors beneficial.
  • Following and assisting with quality certification requirements.
  • Flexibility to fill in gaps in projects such as sourcing parts or modifying equipment.
  • Data analysis using Matlab or similar packages.
